Sugababes announce self-titled new album – the first from original trio in 26 years: “It feels unmistakably us”

Sugababes have announced a new, self-titled album, which will be the first from the original trio in 26 years.

Set for release on February 12 via Sacred Three/The Orchard, the new record will be the first from original members Keisha Buchanan, Mutya Buena and Siobhán Donaghy since their debut, ‘One Touch’, in 2000.

The 12 songs on the tracklist are written by the members alongside some of the UK’s most renowned songwriters and producers, and will see Sugababes explore new emotional and sonic territory.

The latest taster of the album is out now, as Sugababes have dropped the lead single ‘Ghost’ – a captivating track co-written by Jon Shave (Charli XCX) and Wayne Hector (Tate McRae), which follows that feeling of wanting to end a relationship, but feeling unable to fully escape.

As well as capturing their signature R&B/pop sound, new sonic avenues explored across the album will also include nods to garage on ‘Modern Love’, Amapiano on ‘After All’, dance on ‘Scorpio’ and orchestral music on ‘Love Language’.

“We knew from the beginning that we didn’t want to rush this record,” the trio shared. “We’ve poured so much into the songs, the sound and every detail around it, and the more it came together, the clearer it became that there was only one thing we could call it: Sugababes. It feels unmistakably us. We’ve loved writing and recording this record, and we’re so excited that it’s finally time for people to hear it.”

As well as being the first album from the trio since 2000, it will also feature a cover shot by photographer Liz Collins, who also shot the cover for ‘One Touch’.

The new album comes as last year saw Sugababes drop three tracks – the garage, drum’n’bass, R&B and alt-pop melange, ‘Jungle’; the atmospheric R&B ballad, ‘Weeds’ – which was nominated for a prestigious Ivor Novello award – and the high energy ‘Shook’. All of those will appear on the new record.

As well as heading on their biggest-ever arena tour, Sugababes have also taken to the stage at Wembley Arena back in March as part of the star-studded line-up for the Trans Mission show, organised by Olly Alexander and Mighty Hoopla’s Glyn Fussell.

Dubbed “A Night of Solidarity For A Lifetime Of Change”, the concert worked to raise funds for non-profit organisations the Good Law Project and the transgender charity Not a Phase, and joining Sugababes on the bill were Wolf Alice, Beth Ditto, Adam Lambert, HAAi, Jasmine.4.T, Kae Tempest, Kate Nash, MNEK, Romy, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Sir Ian McKellen, Jordan Stephens, Zack Polanski and more.

Backstage, the pop legends caught up with NME and shared that they wanted to join the stacked line-up because they have always seen themselves as “a band that’s about unity”.
“It was a no-brainer when we were asked to be involved in the show,” Donaghy said.

“It was an immediate yes, especially because it’s such a topical subject at the moment, and one that’s quite close to our hearts. Sugababes have always been a band that’s about unity, bringing people together and about being your authentic self, so we were a good fit for what we’re celebrating today.”

When asked about if the group have any more announcements planned for the year, Sugababes kept their cards close to their chest, and said that there will “definitely be new music in 2026”, as well as “a few surprises in the pipeline.”
