Keira Knightley, Ben Whishaw Reunite as Old Killers With New Enemies in ‘Black Doves’ Season 2 Trailer

Keira Knightley is still betraying state secrets to a shadowy organization as Helen Webb, but now she’s the wife of the UK’s Prime Minister as she and best friend Sam (Ben Whishaw) battle new enemies in the second-season trailer for Netflix spy thriller Black Doves, which dropped on Thursday.

As her enigmatic leader (Sarah Lancashire’s Mrs. Reed) at Black Doves gets caught up in a ruthless plot to oust her, Helen and Sam are left by series creator Joe Barton to battle another vast conspiracy that could cost them everything, including those they love. “I would like to know who the hell it is I’m risking my life, liberty and freedom for,” Knightley’s spy mom character questions at one point in the trailer.

And, of course, there’s more gunfights and suspense sequences, including with Champagne bottles as blunt weapons for Knightley in her second season return. In fresh second season roles, Ambika Mod (One Day) will play Laila, an “acerbic and anarchic” Black Doves agent sent to assist Helen. Babou Ceesay plays Mr. Conteh, a Black Doves executive. And Sam Riley will play Patrick, who works for a mysterious outfit and offers Sam a lifeline.

Andrew Buchan returns as Helen’s politician husband, while Kathryn Hunter, Ella Lily Hyland, Gabrielle Creevy, Agnes O’Casey and Molly Chesworth also reprise their roles from the first season of Black Doves, where the sudden death of Helen’s secret lover (Andrew Koji) sent her and Sam on a mission to find his killer.

Barton executive produces Black Doves via his Noisy Bear company. Jane Featherstone and Chris Fry of Sister and Knightley also executive produce, while Callum Devrell-Cameron produces the second season.
