Palestinian illegal resident arrested after fatal car accident in Tel Aviv

A Palestinian was arrested in Tel Aviv after running over a cyclist, who was later pronounced dead at the hospital, with a stolen car, Israel Police said on Thursday.

According to the report, the 24-year-old Palestinian man from Nablus stole the vehicle on Yunitsman Street and, while driving it, ran over a cyclist, who sustained critical injuries and was declared dead.

The suspect was arrested, and a bag with tools used for vehicle theft - including an ignition control module, a hammer, and glass-breaking implements - was reportedly found inside the stolen vehicle.

The police announced that they are currently investigating the scene and gathering further details.

It was also determined that the man had entered Israel illegally, as he did not have the proper documentation to cross the from the West Bank.

Second incident in September involving West Bank residents

The incident represents the second time in September that a West Bank resident stole a vehicle in Tel Aviv.

On September 9, police arrested a 46-year-old Jenin resident on suspicion of stealing the car of Tel Aviv District Court Judge Alaa Masarwa in northern Tel Aviv.

Shortly after the theft, police located the vehicle traveling north on the Ayalon Highway. Police pursued the vehicle and arrested Tarek Jarrar, a Jenin resident who was staying in Israel without a permit, on suspicion of stealing it.

Officers from the Tel Aviv North police station, who located the vehicle, began following it, while officers from the Glilot station were called to prepare to block its path on Highway 5.

When the driver reached the police checkpoint, officers ordered him to stop. According to police suspicions, he did not comply, struck another vehicle, and continued driving.

Police continued pursuing him until they stopped the vehicle.

Body camera footage showed officers approaching the car. When the driver did not respond to their instructions, police smashed the driver's window and removed him from the vehicle. Officers then identified the driver as Jarrar.
