Israeli man detained in India for carrying live cartridge of ammunition leftover from IDF service

An Israeli was detained at Kangra airport in the northern Indian state of Himachal Pradesh for carrying a cartridge of ammunition inside his luggage on Wednesday, Indian media reported.

According to The Tribune India, citing Kangra Superintendent of Police Kulbhushan Verma, the young man was unaware that the cartridge was in his bag, which is the one that he had used during his military service in the IDF.

“A live cartridge was recovered from the baggage of an Israeli national during security checking at Kangra airport on Tuesday. A case has been registered at Gaggal police station under Section 25(1)(A) of the Arms Act, 1959, and the accused has been arrested,” he added.

The report also added that the Israeli man would remain in custody for two days after being interrogated and standing before a court.

Local authorities also said they opened an investigation into how he acquired the cartridge and would pursue further legal proceedings under the law.

Israel's embassy in Delhi and the Foreign Ministry have yet to comment on the incident.

HRF files complaint against IDF soldier in India

The incident comes a month after the latest incident between Israelis and the Hind Rajab Foundation (HRF) in India, which involved the filing of a criminal complaint in India against an Israeli who was vacationing there.

It said that the Israeli is a reservist who was involved during his service in the Gaza Strip in the “unlawful destruction of civilian property” in the Khan Yunis area.

As part of the complaint, the organization asked Indian authorities to investigate him on suspicion of war crimes, crimes against humanity, and acts of genocide.

There is no known connection between this case and the Israeli currently detained in India for carrying a loaded cartridge.
