DC Studios' upcoming animated series is ramping up.

Creature Commandos is an adult animated series on HBO Max. Inspired by the DC Comics team of the same name, the show is produced by DC Studios and Warner Bros. Animation. It serves as the first TV series of the rebooted DC Universe. The story follows a team of operatives made up of monsters who work for Amanda Waller to carry out dangerous missions.

DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran has shared a positive update regarding the company's growing lineup of animated shows, confirming that five upcoming projects have made a lot of progress. While some newly announced shows remain in early development, several others, such as Creature Commandos, are much further along as DC continues to invest in animation.

In a recent interview with IGN, Safran discussed the development status of multiple DC projects, including Creature Commandos season 2, Mister Miracle, My Adventures with Green Lantern, Starfire, and DC Super Powers. According to Safran, all five shows are already at an advanced stage. However, he did not provide specific release dates.

This update offers more clarity about DC Studios' plans for the series after several vague announcements that had been made within the past few months. Safran also expressed the creative team's enthusiasm for the projects and their plans for several popular characters from DC Comics.

His announcement about Creature Commandos season 2 is very exciting because it continues one of the earliest TV series in James Gunn and Safran's DC Universe. The first season introduced audiences to a team of unconventional characters who are assembled to take on dangerous missions, helping bring lesser-known characters from comic book pages to the screen.

The Bride with a gun in Creature Commandos

While this is very good news for fans of the beloved monstrous team, the update itself is still fairly ambiguous. Safran's comments implied that the production of Creature Commandos season 2 is coming along very quickly, but he did not reveal how close the second installment is to completion or what his definition of advanced stages is.

Creature Commandos stars Indira Varma (The Bride), Sean Gunn (G.I. Robot and Weasel), Alan Tudyk (Doctor Phosphorus), Zoë Chao (Nina Mazursky), David Harbour (Eric Frankenstein), and Frank Grillo (Rick Flag Sr.). The show was officially revealed in January 2023. Development for the first season was already underway when the announcement was made.

The original Creature Commandos was created by writer J. M. DeMatteis and artist Pat Broderick. The team made its comic book debut in Weird War Tales #93 in November 1980. Throughout the years, DC has introduced different versions of the team, typically consisting of figures who could be considered "monsters", usually with supernatural abilities or robots.

There is no official release date for Creature Commandos season 2 at the time of this article's publication. Season 1 can be streamed on HBO Max now.
