Malacañang announced Monday that Vince Dizon will once again lead the Department of Transportation (DOTr), a little over a year after he left the office to serve at the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

Dizon first served in the Cabinet of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. in February 2025, when he was appointed as DOTr secretary, succeeding Jaime Bautista.

At the DOTr, Dizon was tasked by the President to enhance physical connectivity and make life easier for the commuting public.

Six months after, at the height of the investigation into the flood control scandal, Dizon was transferred to head the DPWH, following the resignation of Manuel Bonoan.

When he moved to the DPWH, he was ordered by the President to conduct a full organizational sweep of the agency and ensure that public funds were used solely for infrastructure projects in the country.

Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Secretary Lino Cayetano said that at the DPWH, Dizon was able to disrupt a system “that had protected waste and corruption for years.”

With this, Cayetano said thousands of projects have now been open to the public, and long-unfinished projects are now being completed.

Now that he is set to return to lead DOTr, Malacañang said that Dizon is expected anew to make the daily commute of Filipinos a little easier, as well as shorten the lines and get rid of the fixers at the Land Transportation Office.

Dizon was likewise tasked by the President to push the completion of critical mass transport projects, “so workers and students spend less time on the road and more time with their families.”

Before he joined Marcos’ Cabinet, Dizon was a key figure during the administration of former president Rodrigo Duterte.

He served as president and CEO of the Bases and Conversion Development Authority (BCDA) from 2016 to 2021.

He was also the deputy chief implementer of the National Task Force Against COVID-19 during the previous administration, and was the presidential adviser on flagship programs and projects. —KG, GMA News
