Translate

KUALA LUMPUR: Thick smoke seen near the Duta-Ulu Kelang Expressway (DUKE) this morning was caused by a burning streetlight.

Sentul police chief Assistant Commissioner Anuar Bakri Abdul Salam said the incident occurred at the slip road at kilometre 0.5, from Greenwood towards the Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) exit.

"The smoke came from a burning streetlight, and the fire has been extinguished.

"No injuries or deaths were reported," he said in a statement.

Anuar said police received information about the incident from a local man who was on his way to work.

The man had noticed thick smoke coming from a drain along the highway but did not know the actual cause.

He said further action regarding the incident was now under the responsibility of DUKE Highway management.

Earlier, a video showing thick smokenear the highway went viral on social media, drawing the attention of motorists.
