Busari: WAFU B U-17 Cup Vital for Flamingos’ World Cup Build-Up

Flamingos head coach Akeem Busari says the WAFU B U-17 Girls Cup will provide valuable preparation for his team ahead of the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.

Nigeria will begin their campaign against Niger Republic at the Stade Charles Konan Banny in Yamoussoukro, Côte d’Ivoire, on Wednesday.

Busari Focused on World Cup Preparation

Busari believes the regional tournament will give his players the opportunity to test themselves against quality opposition, gain valuable experience and understand the demands of competing at a higher level.

“This is a preparatory stage for us. We are preparing for the World Cup, so we want to go to the top and also get familiar with the nature, the pressure and the important points that come with this kind of competition,” Busari told the media.

Niger Republic Test

The Flamingos coach admitted that his technical crew has limited information about their opening opponents but expressed confidence that his players will adapt once the game begins.

“We are playing a team we have little information about, and we believe that by the time we get to the field, situations will surely bring a solution,” Busari said.

“Strategy is going to be played by the time we see ourselves on the field of play. African women’s football has grown a lot, and everybody is improving.”

The WAFU B U-17 Girls Cup will therefore serve as an important test for the Flamingos as they continue their preparations for the global tournament.
