Tedesco ‘disappointed’ at Bologna dismissal after just 4 games

Domenico Tedesco is ‘very disappointed’ at losing his Bologna job just four games into the season, replaced by Raffaele Palladino, but admits ‘that’s football.’

The Italo-German coach had spent two years as the national team boss of Belgium, then had an experience with Turkish side Fenerbahce, before being hired by Bologna this summer.

It proved to be a very brief spell, picking up one draw and three Serie A defeats, prompting the club to fire him this morning.

Tedesco waves goodbye to Bologna

“What the club and I said to each other will remain between us,” Tedesco told reporters as he left the Casteldebole training ground.

“I can say that I was given a marvellous welcome in this city, and I wanted to be able to repay some of that affection. I am very disappointed, because these people deserve so much, but unfortunately I was only in the stadium twice. The atmosphere there and in the city is wonderful.

“I thank everyone who gave me this welcome.”

What went wrong for Tedesco at Bologna?

“Nothing in particular, this is football.”

The only point picked up by Bologna under Tedesco was also during the one game where they were able to find the net, the 2-2 home draw with local rivals Sassuolo on September 6.

Bologna have appointed Raffaele Palladino as his replacement, and the new coach took charge of his first training session today.

Palladino has signed a contract at the Stadio Dall’Ara to June 2029.
