Asian Games: Malaysia’s swimmers reach 4x200m freestyle final as wushu, karate medal bids fall short

NAGOYA, Sept 21 — Following is a brief round-up of Malaysian athletes in action at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games today:

Wushu

Women’s athletes Lee Jia Rong and Loh Ying Ting finished 10th and 11th respectively in the Changquan event, missing out on a podium challenge.

Hong Kong’s Lydia Sham Hui Yu won gold, while Sou Cho Man of Macau took silver and Indonesia’s Eugenia Diva Widodo claimed bronze.

Karate

Men’s karate exponent Mohamad Haznil Henry missed out on a podium finish after losing 0-5 to Hong Kong’s Hung Ho Wai Howard in the individual kata bronze-medal playoff at Toyohashi Gymnasium.

Meanwhile, women’s karate exponent Zakiah Adnan’s bid for bronze ended in the repechage of the under-61 kilogramme (kg) kumite after she lost to Japan’s Sarara Shimada.

Zakiah drew 1-1 with Sarara, but the Japanese secured the win by virtue of the first-point advantage (senshu).

Swimming

Malaysia’s men’s 4x200 metre (m) freestyle relay quartet advanced to the final after clocking 7:22.05 in today’s heats.

The quartet, comprising Khiew Hoe Yan, Arvin Shaun Singh Chahal, Lim Yin Chuen and Tan Khai Xin, finished fifth overall and will compete in the final scheduled for this evening.

Meanwhile, three Malaysian swimmers failed to reach their respective finals, with Andrew Goh missing out in the men’s 100m breaststroke, while Yin Chuen and Tong Yu Jin failed to advance from the heats of the men’s 50m freestyle. — Bernama
