‘Public figure’ detained by Jais for alleged khalwat

Translate

The Selangor Islamic religious department (Jais) has detained two people, including a public figure, for allegedly committing khalwat (close proximity) yesterday evening.

Jais director Shahzihan Ahmad said the individuals were detained by officers in the Petaling district area around 6pm yesterday to assist in investigations under Section 29 of the state’s 1995 shariah enactment.

“If convicted, they may face a maximum RM3,000 fine, up to two years in prison, or both.

“Jais advises Muslims not to tarnish the reputation of others by making them the subject of speculation, debate or slander,” he said in a statement.

Social media has been rife with speculation that a prominent politician and a woman were detained by Jais for allegedly committing khalwat yesterday.
