Watch Never-Before-Seen Footage of Avicii’s Final Performance

The newly released footage of the 2016 Ibiza show was filmed in one take on GoPro, solely focusing on the Swedish superstar's mixing

Even though it’s been nearly a decade since Avicii’s untimely death at age 28, the Swedish DJ’s legacy lives on. Today marks the 10-year anniversary of his final performance, and to celebrate, his estate and Pophouse are releasing never-before-seen footage of that show. The first three songs of the setlist are premiering exclusively on Rolling Stone, while the rest of the recording will be available via Avicii Community (his fanbase’s “digital home”) at 10 a.m. ET today.

Avicii’s final show went down at Ibiza’s Ushuaïa club on Aug. 28, 2016. Today’s new recording was shot on GoPro, and will give EDM heads a new perspective on the concert, because the camera never wavers from the DJ as he spins through his iconic tracks. The first minutes of the show open on Avicii playing “Without You,” before transitioning into a remix of Dizzee Rascal’s “Dirtee Cash,” and finally his Nicky Romero-assisted song “I Could Be the One.”

Sections of the DJ’s final performance were previously filmed for the the concert short film Avicii – My Last Show, released in 2024 (to coincide with the premiere of the documentary Avicii – I’m Tim), but today’s footage is the first time an Avicii set has been professionally filmed and released in its entirety.

Born Tim Bergling, Avicii was a Swedish DJ and producer who created some of the 2010s’ most recognizable electronic songs by melding country and soul influences into his discography. His 2011 song “Levels” was nominated for Best Dance Recording at the 55th Grammy Awards, and remains one of the most well-known songs of the decade. Other major releases include “Wake Me Up” featuring Aloe Blacc and “Hey Brother,” both from his 2013 debut album, True.

Avicii was hospitalized for health issues throughout his lifetime, and increased alcohol consumption to curb his anxiety led to acute pancreatitis and a gall bladder surgery. In 2016, he penned an open letter to his fans revealing that he would retire from touring stating he had “too little left for the life of a real person behind the artist.” Two years later, he died by an apparent suicide. The posthumous record Tim was released the following year.

“I want to learn as much about other genres as possible,” Avicii told Rolling Stone in 2017. “That’s what I love the most … getting an understanding of music that’s invaluable.”
