TV tonight: Lesley Manville returns as a murder-solving book editor

The amateur sleuth is a well-worn archetype but Lesley Manville inhabits it more persuasively than most in this third and final adaptation of Anthony Horowitz’s mystery trilogy. Manville is book editor (and side-hustle detective) Susan Ryeland, who is persuaded to help whip a troubled young author’s manuscript into shape. She is drawn into a murder case that spans multiple timelines and circles enticingly back to a tiny coven of occult-obsessed children. Odd and intriguing. Phil Harrison

It might be harder to pin down who everyone is this season, beyond a few nepo babies and Delta Goodrem, but we’re still excited for the first live episode of the series. There’s no public vote this week but you can bet on Craig saying something relatively soul-destroying to one of the 15 couples strutting their stuff. Priya Elan

The Space Race in Colour

8pm, Channel 4

The success of Apple TV’s shows For All Mankind and Star City hint at our fascination with the “space race”. This evocative series explores the era, beginning with the origin story: Germany’s fearsome V2 rocket. Its creator passed his secrets to the Americans, who took them to the moon and back. PH

The French (obviously) period drama continues to mix dark intrigue with deadpan absurdity, as accusations and regular violent deaths accumulate in the elegant wake of la femme mystérieuse Marguerite Steinheil (Evelyne Brochu). Could the butler have done it? Jack Seale

The Golden Cobra

A second series of this animation set in and around Ebbw Vale’s grimmest takeaway. Events turn somewhat fantastical – for reasons that aren’t entirely clear, Ebbw Vale now has a beach. But are seaside-related accidents going to prove dangerous to Basil’s most prolific customer? Happily tasteless, grossout fun. PH

It has been a patchy return for the British version of SNL so far, but might this be the night it takes off? It’s hosted by Amelia Dimoldenberg, the increasingly high-profile YouTuber behind the recently retired web series Chicken Shop Dates, while music comes from Rachel Chinouriri. Alexi Duggins

Film choice

The Moment, 6.35am, 1.30pm, Sky Cinema Premiere

It’s hard to tell whether Charli xcx’s mockumentary is a way of summing up her world-exploding “Brat summer” of 2024 or razing it all to the ground. As it counts down to a big arena tour and its accompanying concert film, Aidan Zamiri’s tale flips between the musician being overwhelmed by her sudden celebrity and a string of comically terrible Spinal Tap-ish decisions (the Brat credit card for gay people is a highlight). Throughout, Charli does a good job of keeping us guessing as to what’s a fact and what’s not. Simon Wardell
