Lupin's Omar Sy reveals Assane's reaction to "unusual situation" in season 4: "Who's going to win?"

When we're reunited with Assane Diop in part 4 of Netflix's hit mystery thriller Lupin, he is days away from leaving prison after a four-year stint.
At the end of part 3, Assane turns himself in so his family can be safe and his best friend Benjamin – arrested for helping with one of Assane's heists – can be freed. On his release, he plans to keep on the straight and narrow and be fully present in his son Raoul's life for the first time, including taking a trip to Senegal to go and meet their family.
"I think he's more responsible [in part 4] and he's starting to look at himself in a different way," Omar Sy told Radio Times. "He would always escape and find excuses to not see exactly what was going on, but he's decided to really face the consequences of his choices... especially with what happened between him and his family.
"That's why he decided to be in jail and stay because he wanted to fix that and start fresh and have a normal life. But things cannot be that easy."

Assane's world is upended once again when a copycat Lupin arrives on the scene and carries out an audacious double heist in the first episode, laying the blame squarely at his feet.
"Assane proclaims his innocence, but everything points to his guilt," reads the synopsis. "A camera even shows him in one of the museums during a robbery in which Captain Belkacem is seriously injured."
But as Sy acknowledges, can you really blame people?
"Everyone knows that it's difficult for him to change, and everyone knows that it's going to be very difficult for him to not be Lupin again," he said.
But for the sake of proving his innocence, he is forced to escape from prison and wear the Lupin costume once more.
"Because of what happens when he does that, it does something to him that is really addictive, and very hard to quit," added Sy, who went on to say that this is Assane's biggest test yet.
"For the first time, there's someone who is very challenging for him, someone who seems to be stronger than him," he continued.
"He was always ahead of everyone. He's the mastermind who always decided what the future was going to be. But for the first time, his plan has been ruined by someone else.
"And it is the first time that someone is challenging him at his own game. Assane had always been playing his game, a different game [from everyone else], but for the first time there someone is challenging him in his own field.

"So he's afraid because that, for him, is an usual situation."
But Assane's cross to bear is the viewers' gain.
"It's very exciting," added Sy. "Who's going to win?"
