Świątek wins tournament in Toronto

Iga Świątek has won the 26th title of her career, and the 12th in WTA 1000 tournaments, which are second only to Grand Slams in rank. For the first time in her career, the tennis player triumphed in a WTA 1000 tournament on the hard courts in Toronto.

The Polish tennis player, seeded seventh, won the final against Kazakhstani Elena Rybakina (No. 2) 6:2, 6:3.

Farewell to Andrzej Morozowski

Andrzej Morozowski was a journalist, a master of political conversation, and our friend. His funeral will take place today at the Powązki Military Cemetery in Warsaw.

The journalist died on August 4, after a long illness. He was one of the first political reporters in free Poland, a co-founder of TVN24, and a long-time host of the program "Tak jest".

Polish services prevented an attack

A week ago, on August 7, a Russian citizen was detained in Poland. As Prime Minister Donald Tusk reported, the man recruited by Russian services was supposed to "carry out an execution in Warsaw" on a person with dual citizenship: American and Ukrainian.

The Prime Minister added that the attack was successfully prevented. tvn24.pl journalist Robert Zieliński learned the details of the operation.

SpaceX's response to Gawkowski's inquiry

Poland will be included in the intra-European Starlink Roam travel area, Deputy Prime Minister Krzysztof Gawkowski announced on Thursday. A day earlier, the Minister of Digital Affairs had asked SpaceX to urgently restore equal rules for Polish users.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Radosław Sikorski also got involved in this matter. He appealed to Elon Musk to equalize the rules for using Starlink abroad for customers from Poland and other European countries.

Announcement of the return of the CPN program

A regulation on the reduction of VAT on fuel to 8 percent, which will be in effect from August 17-31, was published in the Journal of Laws on Thursday.

In a significant part, from Monday we are restoring the CPN program, i.e., Lower Fuel Prices. We will lower VAT on fuel from 23 to 8 percent, which should translate into a price drop of 90 groszy, or even more than a zloty per liter - Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced during the conference.

PiS expelled 40 politicians from the party

The PiS Collegiate Disciplinary Court decided to expel from the party 38 deputies and two senators who were members of the Rozwój Plus club, including former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki - reported disciplinary spokesperson Karol Karski.

Karski stated that "in relation to all of them, the disciplinary court found that they severely violated the statute of Law and Justice by leaving the PiS parliamentary club and joining a new parliamentary club."
