Evangelion: Cross Reflections Officially Announced For 2027

Neon Genesis Evangelion has endured as one of the most iconic anime series of the 1990s, and 30 years later, its popularity has shown no signs of slowing down. Neon Genesis Evangelion’s rich sci-fi atmosphere has helped define and inspire the iconography of countless other post-apocalyptic mecha stories since, and it’s about time it had a stronger foothold in the video game space.
As XR, MR, and VR gaming continue to evolve, it’ll only become more interesting to see what studios are able to achieve with the licenses that they’re given access to. Now, fans who’ve wished to be whisked back to the 1990s nostalgia of Neon Genesis Evangelion have had a chance to get a taste of what that’d be like, with the full game itself being released sometime next year.
Via X, a brand-new teaser trailer for Evangelion: Cross Reflections has been officially shared, following its exclusive premiere at a hands-on preview event held for the XR game in San Francisco. As an XR game (mildly distinct from VR, notably), Evangelion: Cross Reflections strives to immerse fans in the world of Neon Genesis Evangelion, but it could also be a treat for fans of the anime hoping for something fresh in a video game adaptation of the TV series.
Evangelion: Cross Reflections will reportedly tell an original story and feature a batch of original characters. Canon/timeline-wise, Evangelion: Cross Reflections will take place in the midst of episodes 1–11 of Neon Genesis Evangelion, giving anime fans a proper glimpse at what era it’ll inhabit. As such, fans should expect to see “locations from the anime,” according to UploadVR:
“Players will enjoy the story set in the locations from the anime from their own perspective. Battles between Evangelions and Angels, various interactive elements, and engaging captivating storylines with original characters are also planned.”
Originally slated for launch in 2026, Pixelity announced at the end of August 2026 that Evangelion: Cross Reflections was being pushed back to 2027, with no clearer indication of what its release date might be beyond this vague, year-wide window. This can only be a good thing, of course, as more time to cook in the oven should hopefully produce a much better final product and give Pixelity plenty of valuable data regarding playtests and hands-on previews leading up to the eventual release of this new Evangelion game.
While the San Francisco hands-on preview took place on September 25, more are reportedly planned to be held in Germany and Japan. Therefore, anyone who is disappointed by the delay of this immersive XR game and itching to experience this original Neon Genesis Evangelion game themselves still has at least a couple of opportunities to do so (granted, they’d have to be selected via an application process and might need to travel across the world to do so).
