Trump senior adviser tells 'Post' that 'Iran will be resolved imminently' - interview

In an interview with the Post, Trump aide Sebastian Gorka said that the president will not dilute his demands in any version of a potential Iran deal.

A deal between the United States and Iran remains possible, and the Trump administration believes it can resolve the confrontation imminently, Dr. Sebastian Gorka, the White House deputy assistant to the president and senior director for counterterrorism, told The Jerusalem Post in an interview that will run in full on Friday.

“Iran will imminently be resolved,” Gorka said in an interview with the Post. He declined to provide details of what President Donald Trump is planning, but insisted that the administration’s objectives toward Tehran have not changed.

“The decision lies with the mullah in Iran,” Gorka said.

Gorka, who will take part in the National Conservatism Conference (NatCon) in Jerusalem next week, argued that Israelis and others concerned that Trump could accept a watered-down agreement with Tehran should look at the president’s record rather than speculate about what a potential deal might look like.

“You’re talking to the man who literally wrote The Art of the Deal,” Gorka said, referring to Trump’s 1987 book.

“Nobody has ever defeated President Trump in 50 years in business, in almost six years now as president. This man is undefeated.”

“If one president brings one peace deal [during an] eight-year term, that’s deemed a success, and they may even get nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize,” he said. “The fact that he’s closed eight peace deals in less than 12 months, you wouldn’t believe it.”

Gorka said the administration’s objectives toward Iran remain consistent with the demands Trump laid out in a letter to Iran’s then-supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

“What we wish to achieve in Iran is shaped by the president’s first letter a year ago to the then Ayatollah, to Khamenei,” Gorka said.

He described the letter as “very explicit,” saying it addressed Iran’s nuclear program, its support for regional proxies and its broader activities in the Middle East.

“It was about nuclear weapons. It was about funding proxies. It was about everything they do in the region to destabilize that part of the world,” Gorka said. “So nothing has changed with regard to the president.”

Gorka pointed to Trump’s public statements as the best indication of the administration’s intentions.

“If you want to understand the president’s intent, you don’t need a top-secret clearance,” Gorka said. “All you have to do is get a Truth Social account and listen to what he puts on Truth Social. Listen to his press events.”

Asked specifically about concerns in Israel that Trump could agree to a weaker deal than the one he has demanded from Iran, Gorka dismissed the idea that such concerns should drive expectations.

“I find it so peculiar that those who are worried,” he said.

Gorka then offered a comparison that he said illustrated Trump’s negotiating approach: Greenland.

“Everybody said, ‘Oh my gosh, outrageous or impossible,’” he said. “Well, neither was it outrageous, nor was it impossible.”

He argued that the eventual arrangement showed the president’s ability to pursue what initially seemed like unlikely geopolitical outcomes.

Gorka said the agreement provides long-term strategic benefits for the United States and its allies, particularly in preventing China and Russia from undermining Western security.

“Just watch the man and see what he has done,” Gorka said.

“People need to calm down and look at the man who is behind the Resolute Desk and look at what he’s achieved.”
