Como reveal truth on Cesc Fabregas contract clause amid Arsenal and Chelsea return links

Como president Mirwan Suwarso will not stand in the way of Cesc Fabregas when he decides to leave the club, insisting he "doesn't need any compensation".

Within a few months he was then made interim head coach of the first team and then assistant for the rest of the season, as Como were promoted to Serie A.

Fabregas was appointed permanent head coach that summer and has overseen the Italian club's dramatic rise.

That success has naturally further enhanced Fabregas' reputation as a manager and he has been linked with a number of big jobs.

Recent reports have suggested that Fabregas has a clause in his contract that allows him to leave for Barcelona, Chelsea or Arsenal for very little compensation.

Suwarso did not deny that and made it clear that Fabregas, who is also a Como minority shareholder, will be allowed to take the next step in his career whenever he decides.

"He doesn't need a clause to go anywhere he wants," Suwarso told Piers Morgan's Football Uncensored show.

"In a business like this, he's a friend more than anything else. He can go wherever he wants, whenever he wants.

"I could even say if tomorrow he calls me and says, 'Hey, I want to go to Leverkusen'. I would say if that's something you want to do then go. I don't need any compensation."

Fabregas returned to Arsenal in the summer when Como faced Mikel Arteta's side in a pre-season friendly.

Speaking after the match, Fabregas emphasised the impact his time at Arsenal had on what he is trying to implement at Como.

“I’m very lucky I’m in a project, of course with much lower level, the history, everything," Fabregas said.

"But we’re trying to look at the stability Arsenal had, the values, the culture that they are bringing."

Suwarso hailed the work Fabregas has done in his two years in charge at Como, putting in place the blocks for the club to establish itself domestically and in Europe.

"He's helped us build our club, he created the football foundations," Suwarso said.

"I always like to say he's our Johan Cruyff, as he did at Barcelona. He created the fundamentals for us. I love having him, he's almost like family. But you can't keep people who don't want to be there."
