Writers Guild Of America West Endorses Nithya Raman For Los Angeles Mayor
The Writers Guild of America West has endorsed Nithya Raman in the Los Angeles mayor‘s race over incumbent Karen Bass.
The WGAW PAC cited her “consistent record supporting organized labor and increased local film and television production.”
Board member Michele Mulroney said in a statement, “With organized labor under attack nationally, and television and film production leaving Hollywood, LA must elect a mayor who is committed to supporting entertainment workers. That’s why WGAW is proudly backing Nithya Raman, who has a real vision for protecting jobs and supporting the entertainment industry.”
Bass’ campaign has highlighted her support among Hollywood labor groups, including IATSE Local 33 and Teamsters 399.
In their statement, the WGAW highlighted Raman’s walking of the picket lines during the strike of 2023, as well as a Save Hollywood Jobs plan.
Raman said in a statement, “Writers are the foundation of this industry, and Los Angeles cannot remain the world’s creative capital if the people who tell our stories can’t build stable careers or afford to live here.”
