‘We’re Parting Ways’: Monsieur Periné Announce Indefinite Hiatus After Nearly 2 Decades Together

Monsieur Periné announced Tuesday (Sept. 29) that they are taking an indefinite hiatus.

“We’re parting ways,” the Colombian band wrote in an Instagram post. ” … We’ve spent a long time trying to figure out how to make this decision and, most importantly, how to communicate it to you, who have been there since day one.

“Perhaps this is the most difficult decision we’ve ever had to make. And we’re still trying to process it. Each of us in our own time. Each of us in our own way,” they continued. “We are going to separate. We don’t know for how long. What we do know is that we need this space. An individual space that we believe will do us good and, hopefully, allow us to reconnect in the future from another place, in another mood.”

The message was part of a carousel that also included a series of photographs of the group over the years — in interviews, concerts, awards ceremonies and other moments. The last image shows the dates of their final scheduled performances: eight concerts in cities across the U.S. and Latin America, starting Tuesday night (Sept. 29) in New Orleans and ending Nov. 29 in Puerto Rico.

“May time, the great counselor, give us the breath to keep dreaming. In the meantime, thank you for everything and for so much,” reads the post’s caption.

The news was confirmed by Guerrera PR & Marketing. “After nearly two decades of music, performances, and a career that has taken them around the world, the band members have decided to part ways for an indefinite period to take individual space,” said the PR agency in a statement. “These final performances will mark the closing of an important chapter in Monsieur Periné’s history, offering the band and their fans the opportunity to meet live one last time before this pause.”

With an original style that fuses pop, jazz and rock, Monsieur Periné — led by vocalist Catalina García and multi-instrumentalist Santiago Prieto — formed in Bogotá in 2007 and released their debut album, Hecho a Mano, five years later. This set was followed by Caja de Música (2015), which won them the Latin Grammy for best new artist; Encanto Tropical (2018); Bolero Apocalíptico (2023), which won the Latin Grammy for best alternative music album; and Instrucciones Para Ser Feliz, released just this past April and recently nominated for a Latin Grammy for best contemporary pop album.

Among their hits are “Nuestra Canción” featuring Vicente García, which charted on the Billboard Hot Latin Songs (No. 13) and Latin Streaming Songs (No. 9) charts; “Bailar Contigo,” and “Hora Loca” featuring Rawayana.
