Doctor Who star Peter Davison reveals why son-in-law David Tennant once told him off in the TARDIS

Doctor Who legend Peter Davison has revealed he got a telling off from son-in-law David Tennant when the pair were in the TARDIS together. Davison played the Fifth Doctor from 1981 to 1984, over 20 years before Tennant made his debut as the Tenth Doctor.

Tennant, who is married to Davison's daughter Georgia, teamed up with Davison for mini episode 'Time Crash,' which aired in 2007 in aid of Children in Need.

Speaking to The Whoniverse Show about filming the special episode, Davison shared that his son-in-law gave him a stern talk after he pulled the wrong lever in the TARDIS.

He explained: "I always loved pressing the buttons on the TARDIS set because it meant the sound department would have to add the noise every time you press a button.

"It started off with just me on David's set, walking around the TARDIS, just pressing every button and pulling every lever and apparently I did pull one lever that David had decided had a special function... so he told me off a bit about that. 'You can't pull that lever!' But we had a really nice time doing it."

Davidson's appearance marked the first time a classic Doctor had appeared in the reboot series, and the actor said he was surprised but "very happy" to get the script, describing filming the episode as a "joy" to do.

Following 'Time Crash', Davidson has reprised his role as the Fifth Doctor numerous times, including Jodie Whittaker's final episode 'The Power of the Doctor' in 2022. Meanwhile, Tennant made a reappearance as the new 14th Doctor in three special episodes in 2023.

Meanwhile, Doctor Who fans will be happy to know that the show is coming back to the BBC — but they'll have to wait.

Last month the broadcaster posted a competitive tender invitation, which stated that it is aiming to have "a multi-episodic series (including specials) for transmission in 2028/29".

Doctor Who airs on BBC One in the UK, with classic episodes available via BBC iPlayer.
