Trade minister discusses barriers, investment with the US businessmen

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Trade Minister Budi Santoso discussed trade barriers and investment with the United States businessmen to ensure the trade relations between the two countries run smoothly.
The discussion took place at the 14th US-Indonesia Investment Summit here in Jakarta on Tuesday.
"Today we attended the US-Indonesia Investment Summit. We want to update several regulations, including the progress of the Agreement on Reciprocal Trade (ART). So, how we will implement it well," Santoso said after the event.
The meeting is said to be a step by the Trade Ministry in ensuring smooth trade relations between partners, in this case the US and Indonesia.

The ministry is also preparing regulations while communicating with business players to learn the challenges faced on the ground, so that the regulations can be implemented optimally.
"This is what we discussed together, how we can improve trade, investment, and overall economic relations between Indonesia and America," Santoso added.
Meanwhile, the American Chamber of Commerce in Indonesia (AmCham) assessed that finalising the Indonesia-US ART can also help strengthening the investment climate.

AmCham Managing Director Donna Priadi mentioned several points in the ART have been a concern for US business players operating in Indonesia.
According to her, ART implementation is expected to provide more certainty for business players while improving the investment climate for the US companies in Indonesia.
Overall, AmCham urged stronger policy certainty to maintain US investor confidence and attract more investment to Indonesia.
AmCham Board of Governors Vice Chair, Mira Arifin, said Indonesia already has a fairly strong economic base, including economic growth that has been maintained in recent years.
However, the risks arising from policy changes are deemed necessary to be reduced in order to maintain investor confidence.
AmCham said Indonesia has several factors attractive to the US companies, including its large domestic market and growing young population.
