UPDATE: Johannesburg Water warns tap water is not yet cleared for these residents

Johannesburg Water says the water quality results received so far for the affected section of Bezuidenhout Valley show no sign of contamination.
The entity confirmed the update in a media statement issued on Friday, 23 October, at 13:45.
However, the utility stressed that full microbiological results are still outstanding and the precautionary alert remains in place.
What caused the water quality alert
Johannesburg Water issued the precautionary alert after a tree stump fell onto a water pipeline and damaged it.
This happened while a contractor was excavating to replace a sewer pipe at the corner of 6th Street and 8th Avenue.
Teams completed repairs on Wednesday night, 21 October.
Johannesburg Water says the results so far are compliant and reassuring. Still, it continued sampling on Friday to build a comprehensive picture of water quality in the area.
Who is affected
The utility clarified that the alert does not cover the whole of Bezuidenhout Valley.
It applies only to properties along 8th Avenue at the intersections of 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th Streets.
Affected customers must continue to avoid drinking or using the tap water until Johannesburg Water issues an official notice confirming it is safe.
The affected supply remains isolated (closed) until the water receives quality clearance. Johannesburg Water says it will keep providing alternative water supply to residents in the meantime.
When residents can expect final results
Johannesburg Water expects the official result, including the full microbiological findings, on Saturday, 24 October.
The entity says it will share a further update on Saturday outlining the findings available at that point and any changes to the precautionary measures.
Residents with queries can contact the Johannesburg Water call centre on 010 061 4470.
