Manvir Singh scored a late goal as Mohun Bagan Super Giant beat Chennaiyin FC 1-0 in their Indian Super League (ISL) match at the Salt Lake Stadium here on Sunday.

Though the clash was extremely tight, Chennaiyin was the more aggressive side, with 25 shots to 17 from Bagan, it was the home side that made its chances count, with more shots on target.

Panagiotis Dilmperis’ side found the breakthrough five-minutes from time when Liston Colaco sending in a cross from the left and Manvir chested it into the net, past Mohammad Nawaz.

It was the second win in a row for the Mariners, while Chennaiyin continued its winless run in the league, with two losses and a draw in three matches so far. The Marina Machans will now hope to start afresh when it returns home to Chennai for its first home game, against Kerala Blasters.

Bagan, meanwhile, will host Punjab in its next match — an opponent against which the Kolkata-based club had completed a league-double last season.
