Drug raid in North Jakarta slum area, 27 arrested

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Jakarta Metropolitan Police arrested 27 people and seized drugs and firearms in a raid on drug dens in the Kampung Bahari slum area of North Jakarta on Sunday.
Jakarta Police's Drug Crimes Investigation Chief Senior Commissioner Bismo Teguh Prakoso said the raid was carried out in coordination with relevant agencies.
"The raid is conducted in a multi-pronged, simultaneous approach. We are collaborating with other parties such as the National Narcotics Agency, the Police's Criminal Investigation Agency, and the Mobile Brigade," Prakoso said.
In the first phase, officers arrested four people, one suspected dealer and three drug users.
"One individual possessed psychotropic substances during his arrest," he said.
Joint teams made more arrests as the operation progressed, bringing the total to 27.
Officers seized hundreds of grams of methamphetamine and marijuana and thousands of ecstasy pills. Cash suspected to be drug proceeds was found with the marijuana.
They also seized an ecstasy press machine, bongs, bladed weapons and firearms.
Prakoso said the operation went smoothly as planned, despite resistance from some individuals during their arrest.
"The resistance is their way to divert our attention from our main target area. We are undeterred as we continue our way to the target area," he said.
He said suspects used illegal stalls along a railway track near Kampung Bahari to trade drugs. Officers will demolish the stalls to wipe out the trade there.
"We will also continue the operation in other places as well as pursue the drug dealers," Prakoso added.
