Oklahoma City Swingman exits on stretcher following gruesome leg injury

Translate

Oklahoma City Thunder guard Jaylen Williams sustained a severe injury during the dying moments of a tightly contested game against the Los Angeles Clippers.

The Thunder guard was fouled in a back-and-forth game against the Clippers with less than two minutes to go in the final period.

With the Thunder leading late in the fourth quarter, Williams attempted a dunk over two defenders but landed awkwardly, causing a severe injury to his lower leg and ankle.

Medical personnel rushed out to cover his leg with towels to hide the severity of the damage. He was then placed in an air cast and stretchered off the court as he gave a reassuring thumbs-up to the fans.

An official timeline for the injury has not been released, but the former All-Star is expected to miss the remainder of the season.

This is a particularly heartbreaking blow to the 2025 champions, considering Williams missed most of the previous season with lingering wrist and hamstring injuries.

The reigning league MVP Gilgeous-Alexander weighed in on losing his co-star during a post-game interview, where he was asked how the team planned to push through the early stages of the season despite the loss.

“We have no choice, it’s what we signed up for, and it’s obviously going to be tough without a player like that.

“He’s not down forever, he’ll be back better than ever, we just have to hold the floor down until he gets back,” he said.

The Thunder went on to win 108-101 at home, recording their first three wins of the season.

They aim to maintain their unbeaten streak as they head to Phoenix to face the Suns on October 26.
