Doctor Who fans are calling for Daniel Craig to be the next Time Lord

Doctor Who fans are calling for Daniel Craig to swap his tuxedo for a trench coat and take on the role of the Time Lord. Ncuti Gatwa left the iconic sci-fi role in 2025 during the season two finale, 'The Reality War', leaving fans of the long-running BBC show itching to know who will take over.

Craig, meanwhile, famously exited the James Bond franchise in 2021 with his fifth film, No Time to Die.

He is set to appear in Greta Gerwig's forthcoming Chronicles of Narnia film, The Magician's Nephew, as Andrew Ketterley, with a first-look image showing the Hollywood star in character.

As a joke, the X page DiscussingFish shared a picture of Craig as Ketterley, seemingly baring a striking resemblance to the Doctor in the TARDIS, with the caption reading: "First look at Daniel Craig as The Doctor in Doctor Who?

"The series will act as reboot to attract new audiences. Tony Gilroy (Andor) will serve as showrunner."

Many found the post hilarious, while others thought they were really onto something and began their own fan campaign for the actor to pick up a Sonic Screwdriver and join the cast.

"He would be a good doctor tho," one user wrote, while another agreed, "I know this is discussingfish but Daniel Craig would actually make a great Doctor."

A third reasoned: "Let’s be real, if Craig was the doctor we’d get a huge boost in viewing for the show - he’s a global household name for obvious reasons.

"Whilst I get he may not be “Doctory”, the trade off for the show having a safer future would be worth it. Also he’s a good actor so…"

Sharing the original post, one person put: "I would’ve actually loved to see Daniel Craig as the Doctor in a Benoit Blanc style of character :( That’s mean."

'The Reality War' ended with Gatwa's character regenerating into Billie Piper, who famously played The Doctor's companion Rose Tyler from 2005 and 2006, returning for a few guest appearances since. It's unclear whether she will be taking on the role.

In the world of Bond, the rumour mill is still in full swing as to who will be having their martini shaken, not stirred.

Most recently, it appeared Gary Oldman hinted that the role has been filled, and championed his Slow Horses co-star Jack Lowden for Bond.

Writer Steven Knight has remained tight-lipped on the subject when grilled about it in interviews, but producer Amy Pascal said people will know who is set to play Bond by the end of the year.
