North West farmer Donovan Marx: Ears could NOT be saved

Translate

The family of Donovan Marx have provided a disheartening update on his medical recovery – his ears that were chopped off in a farm attack could not be surgically saved.

The North West farmer has made international headlines after he was stabbed, shot at and tortured by three armed suspects who escaped in his red van on Wednesday, 28 October.

They remain at large. A reward of R200 000 for information leading to their arrest and conviction has been offered.

NORTH WEST FARMER: EARS CANNOT BE SURGICALLY SAVED

On Saturday, Ian Cameron, the Chairperson of Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Police, shared an update on Donovan Marx’s injuries.

The North West farmer was attacked on his property in Syferfontein on Wednesday morning by three armed men.

According to Cameron, Donovan’s wife, Louise shared that he was receiving medical treatment at Mediclinic Potchefstroom.

While he is stable, his injuries remain serious – with confirmation that his ears, which were chopped off during the attack, could not be surgically saved.

The family has denied rumours that Donovan was castrated by his attackers.

They have confirmed the following injuries:

  • Donovan Marx was shot in the back, with the bullet passing through a kidney.
  • An injury to his colon required part of it to be surgically removed.
  • He was also stabbed in the leg.

Cameron added that the family appealed for privacy and for the public not to interfere in the investigation.

He shared: “The SAPS investigation is at a sensitive stage and has expressed full confidence that it is being handled seriously and thoroughly.

“They have asked people to stop publicly discussing possible suspects, investigative leads and other details of the case. Please respect that request and allow investigators to do their work without unnecessary interference”

R200K REWARD

Meanwhile, a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Donovan Marx’s attackers has been raised to R200 000.

The money was raised by fellow farmers in Potchestroom and Ventersdorp.

The community are also reportedly looking into establishing a BackaBuddy campaign to raise funds for Marx to undergo ear reconstruction surgery.
