Wolverine's New Spin-Off Multiverse Explained. Main Heroes And Villain

Marvel gives Wolverine his very own Spider-Verse, complete with two multiversal counterparts who join forces with the original Logan. Spider-Man's gradual transformation from a friendly neighborhood vigilante into a multiversal nexus point began with the introduction of the Spider-Totems, which revealed that the radioactive spider that bit Peter Parker integrated him into a web of similar heroes. Concepts like the Web of Life and Destiny and Morlun and the Inheritors' pursuit of the Spider-Totems led Spider-Man's responsibilities to ascend from catching street thieves to defending the fabric of existence.

Currently, the Spider-Verse is as essential to the Spider-Man mythos as his extensive gallery of mostly grounded rogues. Marvel regularly revisits the concept in massive crossover events like Spider-Verse and Spider-Geddon, which populate the multiversal web with fan-favorite variants like Spider-Ham, Spider-Man 2099, and Spider-Man Noir. Sony turned this concept into a global pop-culture phenomenon with the Oscar-winning animated Spider-Verse trilogy, and the MCU finished making the concept mainstream by bringing it to live-action blockbuster territory in Spider-Man: No Way Home, after which the Spider-Noir live-action series underlined the idea of countless Spider-Man variants coexisting in Marvel's wider live-action multiverse.

Spider-Man isn't the only hero with a special connection to the Marvel multiverse, though. Despite his lone wolf fame, Wolverine is now part of a gradually expanding family of similar metal-enhanced heroes.

Wolverine Officially Has His Own Spider-Verse

The Wolverine mythos expands into its very own multiversal Spider-Verse concept with the introduction of the Savage Champions, a union of alternate-reality adamantium-enhanced heroes. Whereas the Spider-Verse is an infinite collection of Spider-People from all across the multiverse, the Savage Champions is a network of individuals bonded to indestructible metals across parallel timelines. Adamantine, the mythical predecessor of adamantium, links them together. And when champions like the armor-clad Red Hare or the prehistoric Bone Claw find themselves overwhelmed, Adamantine's power opens a portal to allow them to team up.

Adamantine is a sentient material known as the Spirit of Metal. The ancient Olympians originally used it to forge mythological weapons like the Golden Mace of Hercules, but the living metal remained largely dormant until Wolverine accidentally awakened its consciousness. This living entity harbors immense contempt for the modern age, viewing artificial Adamantium as a cheap copy. In Wolverine #26, Adamantine mysteriously brings Wolverine, Red Hare, and Bone Claw together to prepare for an impending threat, not unlike the way Spider-People like Miles Morales, Spider-Gwen, and Spider-Man 2099 first met.

Wolverine Isn't The Second Marvel Hero To Get A Multiverse Corner Of His Own

Thor And Deadpool Beat Wolverine To A Multiversal Self-Team-Up

Wolverine is far from the first Marvel hero to receive an independent, Spider-Verse-like corner of the multiverse. Before the Savage Champions, Thor improvised a multiversal coalition consisting of his own arrogant younger self and a battle-weary Old King Thor from a distant future to fight Gorr the God Butcher. Later on, a Deadpool variant wielded high-tech reality-sliding devices to hunt countless versions of himself across alternate timelines in Deadpool Kills The Marvel Universe One Last Time. Of course, the most famous hero to assemble a team of his own multiversal counterparts is Mister Fantastic, who joined the already established Council of Reeds in Jonathan Hickman's Fantastic Four.

Still, Wolverine's Savage Champions team has a bigger potential to rival the scale of Spider-Man's Spider-Verse than Thor, Deadpool, and Reed Richards' brief encounters with their respective multiversal counterparts. Since the mythology of the Savage Champion archetype links an indefinite number of individuals from parallel universes together, Wolverine's growing team can pull from an infinite well of radically distinct historical eras and cultural settings. Logan, Red Hare, and Bone Claw are already a more varied team than the Spider-Verse's main heroes. With enough time, the Savage Champions could form a multiversal team that overshadows any Spider-Verse line-up.
