Serie A | Frosinone 2-0 Como: Unexpected upset with hero Palmisani

Frosinone caused a huge upset by inflicting the first defeat of the season on Como, but while Giacomo Calò and Giorgi Kvernadze scored, Lorenzo Palmisani was the hero in goal.

The Lariani knew a victory would put them joint top with Roma, Inter and Lazio, on a run of four straight wins between Serie A and the Champions League. Jayden Addai returned to the bench for the first time since Achilles tendon surgery, so Como had a full squad. The hosts had a very strong run too, picking up seven points in the last three games, but lost Aleksa Terzic and Florian Grillitsch to injury.

Fares Ghedjemis was causing Trevoh Chalobah problems from the start, repeatedly running at the former Chelsea defender and seeing his cross-shot deflected for a corner.

Como had an astonishing four scoring opportunities in one chaotic move on seven minutes, culminating in a parried Tasos Douvikas header, a Monterisi goal-line clearance on Martin Baturina, then Lorenzo Palmisani pushing the rebound Douvikas effort onto the upright.

Instead, Frosinone opened the scoring when Romano Schmid pulled back from the right for Giacomo Calò to sweep first-time from 12 yards, aided by a big deflection off Luis Milla to wrongfoot Jean Butez.

Ghedjemis also crossed low for Antonio Raimondo for a panicked Jacobo Ramon interception, then the Italian striker turned his volley off target.

Nico Paz drilled just wide of the near post, while a Raimondo back-heel flick was straight at Butez at the near post, along with his cross-shot moments later.

Palmisani showed cat-like reflexes to palm away the Nico Paz diving header on an Assane Diao cross, but just as Como were pouring forward in first half stoppages, they left themselves unbalanced to concede the second.

Schmid went on the counter-attack and laid it off for Giorgi Kvernadze, who shrugged off Baturina and drilled the angled drive to squirm under Butez.

Cesc Fabregas took drastic action with a triple substitution at half-time, but Palmisani continued his heroics with reaction saves on the deflected Nico Paz effort and Moise Kean’s strike at the near post after shimmying away from two defenders.

Palmisani even ended up using his hip to parry another powerful Kean drive, while Nico Paz and Raimondo swept finishes just wide from the D.

It remained wide open, as a Schmid cross-shot skimmed the far post, but Palmisani made another big one-handed save to push the Jesus Rodriguez curler out from under the bar.

Frosinone had the ball in the net again on 86 minutes with Raimondo, but the goal was disallowed for a push on Jacobo Ramon.
