‘Durosinmi has Osimhen trait’

Former Super Eagles striker Tosin Dosunmu has compared Rafiu Durosinmi with Victor Osimhen, identifying the Genk forward’s aerial ability as one of the standout similarities between the two Nigerian strikers, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Dosunmu, who is also Durosinmi’s agent, believes the 23-year-old possesses qualities similar to Osimhen but noted that the Genk striker is particularly strong in the air.

“Rafiu sometimes reminds me a bit of Victor Osimhen, with the difference that he is really very strong in the air,” Dosunmu told Het Nieuwsblad, via Tribal Football.

Durosinmi has made an impressive start to the 2026/27 campaign, scoring five goals in six Jupiler Pro League appearances since joining Genk from Italian side Pisa during the summer transfer window.

The Nigerian enjoyed a four-match scoring streak at the beginning of the season and is currently joint-top of the Belgian league’s scoring chart alongside RAAL La Louviere striker Mustapha Ubandoma.

Dosunmu was also impressed by Durosinmi’s immediate impact at Genk, revealing that the forward caught his attention from his first league appearance despite having spent only a short time training with the team.

“On matchday one, he already surprised me with what he showed after barely ten days of training,” Dosunmu said.

However, the former Westerlo forward believes Durosinmi still has areas of his game to improve as he settles into his new surroundings and develops his understanding with his Genk teammates.

“Condition-wise, he is not yet top-notch, and the understanding with his teammates still needs to develop a bit,” he added.

Durosinmi joined Genk after a difficult spell at Pisa, having moved to the Italian club in January. He struggled for regular impact during his time there before Pisa were relegated from Serie A at the end of last season.

The striker made his Super Eagles debut in May during the Unity Cup, with head coach Eric Chelle using the tournament to assess different options in attack in the absence of several established players, including Osimhen.

With the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers approaching, Durosinmi will be hoping his impressive club form keeps him in contention for another opportunity with the Super Eagles.

Before then, he will look to continue his scoring run when Genk face Belgian champions Club Brugge in their next league fixture.
