'I have become psycho': After beheading wife, man sits in temple with severed head; what he told cops

Rintu Ghosh allegedly beheaded his wife, Seema Sarkar, and was discovered in a Kali temple.

KOLKATA: A man allegedly beheaded his wife and sat inside a Kali temple with her severed head resting on his lap, while their two sons sat beside him, in West Bengal's South Dinajpur district on Wednesday. The accused, Rintu Ghosh, a former bus conductor, was found inside the temple in Ward 4 of Narayanpur, under Gangarampur, with a knife in his hand and his wife's severed head on his lap.The incident came to light after local residents spotted Ghosh inside the temple and alerted the police. The victim, identified as 35-year-old Seema Sarkar, had allegedly been killed before the accused brought her severed head to the temple.

Accused links actions to loss of job

A police team led by Gangarampur police station inspector-in-charge Purnendu Kundu reached the spot and arrested Ghosh. Police recovered the woman's body and sent it for post-mortem examination. While being taken away in a police van, Ghosh spoke to reporters about losing his job with the North Bengal State Transport Corporation (NBSTC). He said, "After losing my job from NBSTC and going to the police station, I have become a psycho."

Relative points to changes in his behaviour

According to a relative, Rajesh Pramanik, Ghosh had been struggling to make ends meet after losing his job as a bus conductor. He later tried his hand at small business activities but failed to find a stable source of income.Pramanik also claimed that Ghosh's lifestyle had changed in recent times. He had reportedly given up non-vegetarian food and turned vegetarian, while also displaying behaviour that the relative described as tantric.

Police question accused to establish motive

Police are interrogating Ghosh to determine what led to the alleged murder. Investigators are examining his personal circumstances, employment-related difficulties and recent behavioural changes as they try to establish the motive behind the killing.
