Stephen King's newest adaptation has officially crossed a major milestone, as the future for the horror novelist's onscreen work is finalized. Adaptations of King's work have maintained important relevance across pop culture for decades. In recent years, however, there's been a resurgence of attention for adaptations of his novels, especially when it comes to television. From the miniseries version of Lisey's Story that was penned by King himself, to the prequel series IT: Welcome to Derry, which is currently in development for season 2, King's onscreen work has garnered plenty of recent fame.
Such is the case with Mike Flanagan's TV adaptation of Carrie for Prime Video. Based on King's first ever novel, Carrie follows Carrie White as she attends high school for the first time, pushed to the brink by bullies and becoming the center of a controversy throughout the school. The show takes creative liberties with the original, setting it in the modern era while hinting at a larger story to come. Reviews for Carrie have been generally positive, the show sporting an 85% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes.
Carrie Can't Be Stopped In Its Prime Video Reign
Now, it's been confirmed that Carrie simply can't be stopped from being a key success on Prime Video, even a month after it debuted with all episodes. According to data from November 7, 2026, Carrie has crossed 30 days in the Top 10 on Prime Video in the United States. It also steadily remains at Number 2 on the platform, just behind the recently-renewed The Terminal List. The show's popularity has also outlived the Halloween season, a major step in showcasing how well-received it's been.
Everything from the cast of Carrie to the changes in the story have been generally well-liked by critics and audiences alike. Instead of being a dour story about revenge and bullying, like the source material, the TV show goes in a different direction that follows themes of empowerment and one's control over one's circumstances in life. This coupled with a bullying story that feels in tune with the original makes Carrie one of King's more memorable adaptations in recent years.
How Does The Stephen King Series Set Up Season 2?
The show is far from over, too, with Carrie season 2 confirmed just a few weeks after the series premiered. The story is set to take place after the events of the novel, with this version of Carrie escaping her hometown after destroying it following her high school prom. In this instance, she's driven to parts unknown by Emaline, an astral projector who'd been helping Carrie hone her powers across the first season. She's part of a group of girls with the Shine, King's name for psychic powers across all his works.
Question 1 of 3
It appears Carrie is poised to open up a much bigger world in season 2. However, season 1 has proven itself continually popular across the US, indicating a very dedicated audience that's helped it keep a top spot on Prime Video for quite some time. Although it's unclear where the King adaptation will be headed next, its 30-day Top 10 milestone is a sure sign that it'll remain a success for a while yet.
