‘Who Is Still Alive’ Trailer: Watermelon Pictures Sets U.S. Theatrical Release For Swiss Oscar Entry

Translate

EXCLUSIVE: Watermelon Pictures has set a November 27 U.S. theatrical release for Switzerland’s 2027 Oscars entry Who Is Still Alive and posted the North American trailer.

Conceived and directed by filmmaker Nicolas Wadimoff, the documentary revolves around nine former Gaza residents now scattered as refugees throughout the Middle East and Europe, unsure whether they will ever be able to return to the Palestinian territory they once called home.

Moving about a simple representation of the territory, consisting of white lines on a black floor, they recount their previous lives, stories of survival, lost ones and buried dreams.

The film work premiered in Venice parallel section Giornate degli Autori (aka Venice Days) in 2025, and has gathered steam on the international festival circuit playing at Locarno, Hot Docs and the Thessaloniki International Documentary Festival among many more.

Wadimoff is due to hit the awards trail in the U.S. in the coming days, to participate in screenings and Q&As.

Watermelon Pictures will open the film in New York and L.A. on November 27, before expanding into another 10 key art markets on December 4, with potential for more dates after that.

The distribution company enjoyed a buzzy 2025-26 awards season as the North American distributor of nominated drama The Voice Of Hind Rajab and shortlisted titles Palestine 36 and All That’s Left Of You. Aside from Who Is Still Alive, other 2027 Oscar contenders on its current slate include American Doctor for Best Documentary.
