Bridgerton Season 4 Sets Up The Franchise's Perfect Third Spinoff With A Twist

Bridgerton season 4 sets up the franchise's perfect third spinoff series. Netflix recently informed the Ton that a new limited-series Bridgerton spinoff is on its way, this time focusing on the foundational love story between a young Violet Ledger and her soon-to-be husband, Viscount Edmund Bridgerton. It's been a long wait for news of more franchise expansions since the magnificent Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story premiered in 2023, though Netflix seems to be picking up the pace.

Bridgerton season 5 is confirmed to air next year, marking the first time the primary show will air new seasons back-to-back, as Francesca finds another great love in Michaela Stirling. Season 6, Eloise's season, is already in the works, too; the young Violet spinoff is the icing on the intricately decorated cake. Given the show's previous release schedule, it might air between seasons 5 and 6 and play an important role in setting up the new season, just as Queen Charlotte did for Bridgerton season 3.

Whether the show will return for seasons 7 and 8, focusing on the youngest siblings, Gregory and Hyacinth, remains to be seen. In the meantime, Netflix could (and should) greenlight a third spinoff, completing the set and allowing Bridgerton to explore an entirely different kind of story. After all, Charlotte and young Violet weren't the only important characters in the Queen Charlotte spinoff. Who has supported them all these years, changing society and matchmaking for both love and friendship? Lady Agatha Danbury. Luckily, Bridgerton season 4 set up the perfect story for this incredible character.

Lady Agatha Danbury Deserves Her Own Bridgerton Spinoff

If any Bridgerton universe character deserves her own spinoff, it's Lady Agatha Danbury. She is a pillar of society, a force to be reckoned with. She has protected, sponsored, and championed new debutantes. She has diligently supported Charlotte and Violet, even at the cost of her own happiness. She loved and cherished the Duke of Hastings after his mother's death and his father's abuse. Yet despite Lady Danbury's importance to society and Bridgerton as a whole, her character has had very few, if any, storylines that weren't intricately and inextricably tied into someone else's.

Even her love affair with Lord Ledger, as shown in Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, was tied to Violet's story; after all, Lord Ledger was Violet's father. A Lady Danbury spinoff would let this cherished character star in her own arc rather than remain a supporting player.

Though this currently still hypothetical spinoff could follow in Queen Charlotte's and "Young Violet's" footsteps and bring back Arsema Thomas, introducing a new chapter in a younger Agatha's life — Thomas was perfectly cast as Lady Danbury — Bridgerton season 4 set up an even more intriguing and exciting possibility: a chance for the franchise to reinvent itself and for Lady Danbury to shine without the weight of the Ton on her shoulders.

Lady Danbury's Bridgerton Spinoff Should Take A Different Approach Than Charlotte's & Violet's

While Bridgerton season 4 focused on second son Benedict's love story with Sophie Baek, the show also explored Lady Danbury's enduring (and trying) friendship with the Queen. Most importantly, after years of Agatha dutifully serving Charlotte, the Queen finally gave Agatha the freedom to leave London and set out on an adventure of her own. At the end of the season, Agatha says a temporary goodbye to the Ton, ready to sail to her homeland.

That doesn't mean Agatha will leave Bridgerton forever, though. Quite the contrary, as showrunner Jess Brownell assured fans that the one and only Adjoa Andoh would reprise her role in Bridgerton season 5 (via Entertainment Weekly). Presumably, this means the next season will take place after Lady Danbury's trip; timeline-wise, this makes sense, as she wasn't at Benedict and Sophie's post-credits scene wedding, and Francesca will need more time to grieve her husband's death before accepting her feelings for Michaela.

Agatha's journey would be the perfect subject for a third spinoff and a creative way to fill the gap between Bridgerton seasons 5 and 6. It would be so fun to see Bridgerton expand beyond Mayfair and the confines of London society. It would also position Agatha as the true star of her own show, rather than sharing the spotlight with more established characters. We heard all about Colin's travels in Bridgerton season 3. Let's see Agatha's travels in action.

This would also be a great opportunity for the franchise to give Lady Danbury a new love interest, someone completely unrelated to the Ton (yet still suitably wealthy, of course) who won't jeopardize her friendship with someone close to her. Violet's season 4 relationship with Lady Danbury's brother, Marcus Anderson, was a breath of fresh air. Female characters in their 50s and 60s don't normally get to explore their romantic and sexual desires in such a thoughtful, moving way on screen.

Agatha deserves the same. Meeting someone on her journey would be a natural way for her to find happiness without the Ton breathing down her neck. It would also push her character forward, rather than keep her stagnant. Making an Agatha-centric Bridgerton spinoff without focusing on the character's younger self might break franchise tradition, but it would certainly be a worthwhile risk.
