Socso confirms Ipoh crash victims’ families entitled to pensions and funeral aid exceeding RM275,000

IPOH, Sept 21 — The next of kin of two victims killed in a road crash on Jalan Jelapang-Ampang here on Saturday are eligible for benefits under the Social Security Organisation’s (Perkeso) Lindung 24 Jam Scheme for Non-Occupational Accidents.

Perkeso said in a statement today that the victims were Muhammad Izdihar Rafiq Sarajil Korin and Muhamad Faiz Danial Jumri, both aged 19.

Its records showed that Muhammad Izdihar began contributing to Perkeso after starting work in January this year, while Muhamad Faiz had been contributing since August last year.

“Although the accident occurred outside working hours, the next of kin, including the victims’ parents and siblings who may previously have depended on them, remain protected.

“This is the true purpose of Lindung 24 Jam, which provides protection for accidents occurring outside working hours, even when workers have only recently started contributing to Perkeso,” the statement said.

According to Perkeso, the next of kin of Muhammad Izdihar are eligible for Dependants’ Benefit payments of RM945, distributed according to their respective shares, with his parents receiving the payments for life and his three siblings receiving them until they turn 21 or complete a degree.

For Muhamad Faiz, Dependants’ Benefit payments of RM891, distributed according to the respective shares, will be paid to his parents for life, while one sibling will receive the benefit until turning 21 or completing a degree.

In addition, the next of kin of both victims are eligible for a Funeral Management Benefit of RM3,000 each as a one-off payment.

Perkeso said the total periodic pension payments through the Dependants’ Benefit over 15 years to the victims’ next of kin would amount to more than RM275,000.

The crash, which occurred at about 3.35am on Sept 19, killed three male motorcyclists aged between 19 and 20 at the scene, while nine other male motorcyclists aged between 19 and 25 sustained various injuries. — Bernama
