Junade Khan, who plays Idris, recently spoke about the big new storyline – revealing that his ruthless character will try to manipulate Carla when she's vulnerable.

Giving her take on the story, Alison exclusively told Inside Soap: "Carla is going to have troubles again at the factory. It's her trying to weather those and Lisa being there and supporting her.

"It's going to be tough times for Carla and Underworld, and Lisa really wants to be able to help."

Meanwhile, Vicky noted that Carla's character is going back to her roots at a special time, as it's soon to be 20 years since she joined Coronation Street.

She said: "I think it's brilliant for Carla to get back into the factory in Ali's 20th year!

"That's her baby, she's worked so hard to keep it through hard times and the good times, and Lisa is very much being a supporting role with that, as it should be."

Alison and Vicky spoke following the big news that Carla and Lisa had been awarded the Best Partnership prize at the Inside Soap Awards for the second year running.

"It was a wonderful surprise, and that level of investment is not taken for granted," promised Vicky. "To be acknowledged in that way for the second year running, I'm so touched. Really, thankful doesn't quite cut it."

Alison added: "Truly, thank you. Honestly, it does mean the world to us, and we hope we last for the fans because we really enjoy working with each other, and it's such a joy."

Viewers will see the new Underworld story begin in the coming weeks.

Junade recently told us: "Carla does not like Idris! Basically, Underworld is something that Idris wants to get. He wants to grab hold of it – and there's going to be a bit of a battle, a bit of a tussle.

"Obviously that's her livelihood, so she's not going to give it up easily, but we'll see what happens.

"He's very, very determined to get what he wants. And when he sees a weak link in the chain, he likes to try and explore it. Right now, she's quite vulnerable so it's a really good time to attack her and get what he wants."
