ALOR STAR: Three more temporary relief centres have been opened in Kedah as the number of flood evacuees in the state rose to 224 as of 8am today.

The State Disaster Management Committee Secretariat said 74 families from Yan, Kuala Muda and Pendang were being housed at five relief centres.

In Yan, three centres are sheltering 168 evacuees from 59 families.

SK Teroi is housing 101 victims from 29 families, while SJKC Pei Eng is sheltering 41 evacuees from 21 families. Another 26 victims from nine families are at Dewan Lestari Guar Chempedak.

In Kuala Muda, 40 victims from nine families are taking shelter at Surau As Saadiah, while Dewan Kedsa Tanjung Setol in Pendang is housing 16 evacuees from six families.

The PublicInfoBanjir website reported that three monitoring stations in Kedah had exceeded danger levels — Sungai Durian Burung in Durian Burung, Sungai Melaka in Padang Matsirat and Kampung Padang Pasir.

Sungai Anak Bukit in Taman Aman and Sungai Titi Kerbau in Kubur Panjang had exceeded alert levels, while Sungai Pendang in Pendang had exceeded the warning level.
