There are now under two months to go until the launch of Grand Theft Auto VI, and it is hard to believe that we will soon be experiencing the most anticipated video game release of all time.
It has been a long time coming. With the most recent Grand Theft Auto entry, Grand Theft Auto V, launching way back in 2013, and GTA VI itself being the subject of two delays, it feels as though the wait has taken forever, but now, it is almost finally upon us.
Thanks to the recent collaboration between Rockstar Games and Netflix which saw us finally receive our first glimpse at gameplay, hype for Grand Theft Auto VI is bigger than ever, but some questions still remain, including: how big will the game actually be?
With many expecting GTA VI to be the biggest game of all time, in terms of an open-world map which is reportedly "twice the size of GTA 5's map" and "three times the size of Red Dead 2's map," we can safely assume that it will require a lot of storage for the PlayStation 5. However, at the time of writing, a specific size has not yet been confirmed.
That being said, it has not stopped fans from heading over to r/GTA6unmoderated to share their thoughts, after one user posted, "If you were to guess the file size of GTA 6, what do you think is realistic for the game? My guess: 220 GB TO 296GB. What's your guess?"
With over 100 comments, it is safe to say that fellow fans had their own guesses, and took to the comments to drop some numbers.
"As long as it's not like ARK," one comment read. "That game took 320GB with all the DLCS." Another said, "Maybe around 150-180gb? But it's definitely going to expand over time when Online and more content gets added. I remember when GTA 5 launched on the PC, it was around 60GB. Now, over a decade later, it's around 100-120GB, so GTA 6 file size could also double (or even triple) throughout its life-cycle."
Other estimates range from 184gb to 250gb, whilst another user said, "Optimization includes file size. That paired with the PS5 SSD, and it will probably be less than we’re expecting." However, put simply, we do not yet know, but what we can imagine is that we will need to sacrifice some space in order to make room for when Grand Theft Auto VI launches on November 19.
