Translate

SEPANG: A trader pleaded not guilty at the Sessions Court here today to a charge of posting an offensive comment about Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Facebook.

Muhammad Zubair Ismail, 44, from Alor Setar, Kedah, was accused of making the offensive communication through a Facebook account under the name "Tam Jebat" on Jan 12.

He entered the plea after the charge was read out before Judge Raja Shahril Anuar Raja Baniamin.

According to the charge, Muhammad Zubair had knowingly initiated the transmission of an offensive comment through Facebook with the intention of annoying another person.

The charge was read out by Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) prosecutor Fadhli Ab Wahab under Section 233(1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which provides for punishment under Section 233(2).

The alleged offence was committed on the first floor of the MCMC Tower.
