Cindy Crawford’s son, model Presley Gerber, dies at 27

Presley Gerber, the son of supermodel Cindy Crawford, died on Sunday, age 27, a family representative said in a statement.

Gerber died at a “rehab facility,” according to online records of the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner. No cause of death or further detail was given.

“The family is asking for privacy during this very difficult and painful time,” a statement on behalf of his family said.

Supermodel Crawford married business man Rande Gerber in 1998 and the couple have two children.

Gerber and his younger sister, Kaia, both became professional models, featuring in campaigns for Dolce & Gabbana and Calvin Klein, among others.

Aged 18, Presley Gerber featured alongside his mother in a 2018 ad to re-create her iconic 1992 Super Bowl commercial for Pepsi.

He and his younger sister have spoken about their mother giving them professional space.

“She has never lived vicariously through us,” Kaia Gerber said in a family interview with TODAY last year.

“You are so not a stage mom,” she added, of her mother.

Gerber had posted online frequently about his struggles with depression and addiction. He instigated a program called “Mental Health Mondays” on his Instagram account, where he spoke openly about his struggles. He said in doing so he had hoped to “spark real conversations about the stuff most people hide.”

In November, he wrote that he “had to step back and take care of my own mental health for a bit.”

In an interview with Vogue magazine last month his sister Kaia spoke about his struggles.

“My parents for most of our lives were very, very private and didn’t share anything — and now we have this absolute teacher, my brother, who says, ‘I’m gonna be very human for everyone,’” she said. “There’s only so much you can hide from the world. And trying to put a lid on something just makes the person feel like you’re ashamed of them.”

In July, for her son’s 27th birthday, Crawford posted two images online featuring Gerber as a child and as a young teenager, writing: “I’m so proud of the man you’ve become, but I’ll always see you as my little boy! Love you.”
