Expensive peace: A look at NCIC's Sh963m price of peace in 2027

Kenya is preparing to spend nearly Sh1 billion to prevent violence, hate speech and political intolerance ahead of the 2027 General Election, as memories of the 2007/2008 post-election violence continue to haunt the country.

The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) plans to spend an estimated Sh962.6 million on a peace roadmap designed to detect tensions early, counter hate speech and ethnic mobilisation, engage young people and rebuild public trust before political competition escalates into violence.
