Kerry Washington Expands ‘Street You Grew Up On’ Interview Series Into Weekly Ongoing Podcast From Her Simpson Street Production Company and Daylight

Kerry Washington is turning her “Street You Grew Up On” interview show, which she has run in four discrete seasons over the last several years, into an ongoing weekly podcast.

The actress, producer and director, best known for her role on ABC’s “Scandal,” first launched the show as a digital series in 2021 during the COVID pandemic. Now she’s expanding the interview series to a weekly, full-length audio and video podcast under a partnership between her production company, Simpson Street, and creator-services company Daylight.

The expanded format gives Washington “more room to follow the memories, relationships and stories that emerge from the show’s deceptively simple question: What street did you grow up on?” according to her company. In each episode, she invites a guest to revisit the people, places and experiences that shaped them before they became famous, exploring how childhood, family, community and belonging continue to influence their identities.

Washington’s guests on Season 5 of the weekly show include Ben Affleck, Dwayne Johnson, Demi Lovato, Colin Kaepernick and Chelsea Handler. Past guests on “Street You Grew Up On” include Michelle Obama, Jane Fonda, Queen Latifah, John Legend, Issa Rae and Jay Shetty.

“My company Simpson Street is named after the street in the Bronx that my mother grew up on. I have always been curious about how our origin stories impact who we become,” Washington said in a statement. “’Street You Grew Up On’ allows me to continue to explore this idea by engaging in conversation with people whose journeys fascinate us all. I’m excited to expand the series into a podcast and spend more time with our guests exploring the people, places and experiences that have shaped their lives.”

Season 5 of “Street Your Grew Up On” premieres Wednesday, Sept. 30. New episodes will be released every Wednesday. Audio will be available on all podcast platforms, with full video on Apple Podcasts, Spotify and YouTube.

Daylight’s services span distribution, audience development, marketing, IP expansion and technology. The company’s studio arm, QCode, is a premium content studio that has produced a slate scripted podcasts.
