Bus crashes into power poles, parked cars in Woolloongabba
A tow truck is on scene in Woolloongabba where a bus ran off the road shortly after 4pm on Monday.
Shortly after 6pm the bus remained pulled over on Ipswich Road, where it had come to rest after smashing into several power poles and parked cars, before finally hitting a brick wall.
Nine reported the bus left a trail of destruction spanning 50 metres along the side of Ipswich Road.
The vehicle, a Translink bus operated by Caboolture Bus Lines, suffered extensive damage to its front – including a smashed-in windscreen and headlights – but a Queensland Police spokeswoman said it did not hit any pedestrians when it veered off the road.
Initial police reports suggested the driver had suffered a medical episode, which had caused the crash. Police said no passengers were injured in the crash.
The driver was taken to Princess Alexandra Hospital in a stable condition after passengers helped him off the bus, Nine reported.
About 6pm, officers has cordoned off parts of Ipswich Road and Balaclava Street, as a tow truck prepared to remove the damaged bus.
Five police crews remained at the scene, although a Queensland police spokeswoman said no forensic crash units would be called to the scene.
