Translate

ALOR GAJAH: The Machap Jaya seat will see a three-cornered contest in the Melaka election, with incumbent Datuk Ngwe Hee Sem facing two challengers, including a former assemblyman.

The Election Commission confirmed that Ngwe, who is from Barisan Nasional, will take on Datuk Ginie Lim Siew Lin of Pakatan Harapan and former chief minister's special officer Prasanth Kumar Brakasam of Bersama.

Returning officer Hamka Dollah said the commission had accepted the nomination papers submitted by all three candidates.

"I received three nomination papers. The first was from the PH candidate at 9.05am, followed by the Bersama candidate at 9.13am and the BN candidate at 9.19am.

"I checked all the nomination papers and none of them was rejected," he said during a brief media conference at Kompleks Japerun Machap Jaya today.

The Machap Jaya constituency has a total of 16,030 registered voters.

In the 2021 state election, Ngwe retained the seat for BN with 3,732 votes, securing a majority of 938.
