Coronation Street legend Alison King tipped to join line-up of The Great Pottery Throwdown

Coronation Street star Alison King has reportedly signed up for the next celebrity series of The Great Pottery Throwdown.

King, who has played factory boss Carla Connor-Swain on the ITV soap since 2006, is said to be swapping the Underworld cutting room for the potter's wheel on Channel 4's hit crafting competition.

"Alison very rarely appears on these sorts of programmes and it's fair to say this is a pretty niche show to have selected," a source told The Sun. "But she’s clearly doing it for the love of the challenge rather than to earn big bucks or have her profile raised."

The source added: "As one of the biggest stars of Corrie, she doesn’t really need to either. She clearly just wants to have a crack at the craft. Where it comes from is uncertain. The closest her character Carla got to ceramics was getting her hands on one the Rovers Return hotpots."

Radio Times has approached Channel 4 for comment.

Channel 4 has not officially confirmed if the celebrity series has been recommissioned for a second run, nor who else could appear in the pottery studio.

Keith Brymer Jones, Rich Miller and Liza Tarbuck all sat on stools, smiling ahead with their hands on their knees.

The first season of The Celebrity Great Pottery Throw Down featured comedian Lucy Beaumont, Fatiha El-Ghorri, Richard Herring, former footballer Paul Merson, Strictly Come Dancing finalist Layton Williams and Denise Van Outen.

Williams was crowned champion, declaring after his win: "I am genuinely so thrilled. I was ready to do my 'supportive friend face' but I'm so overjoyed and really just humbled. I'm really, really happy. I never bloody win anything!"

He continued: "And all my family are here too, to enjoy it. I prepared them for me to lose actually, so to stand here with a trophy is crazy. I guess I'm gonna be throwing some more clay. Why not? I need to buy me a wheel."

The Great Pottery Throwdown is available to stream on Channel 4.
