Cardinal Tagle’s father dies at 96

MANILA, Philippines — The 96-year-old father of Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle died on Sunday, Sept. 6.

Manuel Tagle Sr., who celebrated his 70th wedding anniversary with his wife, Milagros, last August, passed away at 7:09 a.m. CBCP News said the cardinal, who is currently serving as proprefect of the Vatican’s Dicastery for Evangelization, was in Rome when his father breathed his last.

As stated in the report, Tagle said they thanked God for his father’s life and mission as he asked for prayers for his eternal repose: “May Tatay Maning rest in peace, with Mary, the angels and saints.”

The wake and viewing at Casas Hall in the Bishop’s House in Imus City, Cavite, began on Sept. 7 and ends on Sept. 9. Visits are from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The Requiem Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Sept. 10 at Imus Cathedral. —KURT DELA PEÑA
