The return of Battlestar Galactica in the early-mid 2000s really did feel like a magical time for television, and its legacy has lived on far beyond its natural course. The move to a grittier tone was a masterstroke, and it offered something notably different from shows in the same genre, like Star Trek and others.

That's why it was so galling when streaming service Peacock passed on the more recent Sam Esmail (Mr Robot) and Universal Content Productions reboot. That has seemingly disappeared forever, leaving us with just the classics to while away the time for now. Happily, there are other products coming out attached to the franchise to keep its memory alive, and the latest of those is a limited edition that fans will definitely appreciate.

Over on the Master Replicas website, the manufacturer has confirmed the release of the Battlestar Galactica (Classic) Cerberus Limited Edition statue. It's a highly detailed rendition of the iconic ship from the series, and it would slot right in alongside the ever-widening pantheon of products attached to the series.

In sharing a few details about the figure, the company posted the following description:

"LIMITED EDITION In the original 1978 Battlestar Galactica, we were told there were twelve battlestars, though only eight were ever named on screen. Three more battlestar names — Solaria, Cerberus and Prometheus — were waiting in the wings, intended to join the Colonial fleet had the series continued.

"The Battlestar Cerberus is being made in a limited edition of just 500. One of those long-rumoured additions to the fleet, she makes her debut here — a new name among the ranks of the Twelve Colonies, brought to life for the collection for the first time. This classic-era battlestar is made from die-cast and ABS, and measures 10.5 inches in length."

The products are expected to ship to customers this month, though they haven't specified when just yet. If you want to pick it up for yourself, it's also priced quite reasonably at $74.99. The only other thing to be aware of is that it is very much intended as a piece of art rather than a toy, so bear that in mind before buying for you or a loved one.

In what should come as something of a silver lining for fans, there is some hope that Battlestar Galactica will be back on screens in the future. The show remains very popular, particularly in online circles, and there will be production companies looking to capitalize on that. At the same time, writer Simon Kinberg has finished a feature film script that, while it hasn't yet started production, there has been some talk of it fitting into a wider universe moving forward.
