Deadly house fire in Golan Heights kills woman in her 60s as firefighters work to extinguish flames
An approximately 60-year-old woman was pronounced dead after being pulled from a fire in a two-story home that had been raging for the past hour in the Golan, Israel's Fire and Rescue Authority announced on Sunday.
Upon arriving at the home in the village of Mas’ada, firefighters noticed smoke billowing from the building and received reports that a person was trapped inside.
The woman was found unconscious and in critical condition within the home.
After bringing her outside, firefighters at the scene attempted basic resuscitation efforts until Magen David Adom (MDA) teams arrived. She was handed over to MDA personnel, who pronounced her dead.
Deputy fire chief reiterates call for smoke detectors
"The team rushed to the scene following a report received directly from a citizen regarding a fire and a concern that someone was trapped inside a house in the village," said Galilee-Golan District Deputy Fire Chief Eli Mor. "The team entered the smoke-filled structure and rescued a woman in critical condition. The firefighters performed resuscitation efforts until medical personnel arrived."
"I reiterate the crucial importance of installing smoke detectors in homes to provide early warning of a fire and save lives."
The Northern District Commander ordered the establishment of a special Fire and Rescue Authority investigation team to examine the circumstances surrounding the outbreak of the fire.
