Gov't disburses Rp574.2 trillion in education funds as of September

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The government disbursed Rp574.2 trillion in education funds as of September 30, 2026, up 39.5 percent from Rp411.7 trillion in the same period last year.

Finance Minister Suahasil Nazara said at a press conference here on Friday that the funds supported various education needs, including student assistance, educator welfare, operational costs, and facility repairs.

He said Rp184.3 trillion went toward programs benefiting school students and university students, including the Smart Indonesia Program (PIP), the Smart Indonesia Card for Higher Education (KIP Kuliah), and the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program.

Meanwhile, Rp177.9 trillion was allocated to teachers, lecturers, and other education personnel, including salaries and professional allowances.

Another Rp204.1 trillion supported school and university operations and facility improvements, including through the School Operational Assistance (BOS) program and State Higher Education Operational Assistance (BOPTN).

By distribution mechanism, education budget realization comprised Rp330.9 trillion in central government spending, Rp228.1 trillion in transfers to regional governments, and Rp15 trillion in financing.

Nazara emphasized that education spending by central and regional governments should be viewed as an integrated whole in supporting education services.

"Both the state budget (APBN) and regional budgets (APBD) are part of a single whole. Central government spending is covered by the APBN, while regional government spending is financed through transfers to regions, combined with locally generated revenue," he said.

Nazara said the government was still reviewing how to allocate the Rp824 trillion education budget planned for 2027 to ensure the funds deliver optimal results for the education sector.

"Next year, the education budget will amount to Rp824 trillion. We are now working out how much should go to school students and university students, and how much should be allocated to teachers, lecturers, and other education personnel," he added.
